John Garcia (age 52) and his son Gavin Garcia (age 18) may just have re-invented the classic game of golf with their new tabletop game, The Table Golf Association, or TGA for short. Together they developed the game over the past 2-years, and all that hard work has obviously paid off.

As the name implies, you play golf on a table, indoors where the weather is always nice (but it can still get windy in the game!). Now, when you can’t get to the golf course, you can bring the course right to you.

The game comes with 25, double-sided wooden terrain pieces, shaped in the form of a hexagon. Players use these pieces to design their own course. The tiles include the Tee box and green with the hole, as well as the fairway, rough, sand bunker, trees, water, tiles with a ridge and even a nasty cliff you may have to hit over.

Once the course is ready, players will hit a ball with a plastic ring (similar to a mini-shuffleboard piece), and just like in golf try to avoid the hazards and sink the putt in the least number of shots. There is also a weather die, and a result of wind means the final ball location will be adjusted based on the wind speed and direction. It is elegant, has simple yet challenging mechanics and is a lot of fun to play!

The game has managed to excite the golf and boardgame community alike, resulting in a resounding 1,158% funding of their recent Kickstarter campaign. To put it into context only 22% of KS projects meet their funding goals. Of those who do, the average funding amount is $28k and less than 5% of KS projects exceed $100k in funding. For essentially a father and son operation to do this, the odds would be less than 1%.

‘We were looking to raise $10k on Kickstarter and we did that in the first hour! After it was all said and done, we had over 1,100 backers and 2 distributors that raised our total to nearly $200k! It was so exciting to see the board game community respond like this to a first-time design team with a golf-themed dexterity game. The odds were definitely against us, but now it just continues to grow. We are very optimistic about the future of the TGA.” said John.

Clearly the game has hit a nerve and has the potential to truly become a movement. The TGA is set to offer memberships, host tournaments and become an actual league where players compete for prizes all around the world. There are also expansions already available like the Driving Range, or the European expansion and more are on the way.

When it comes down to how big the TGA can get, the only limit will be the size of your kitchen table! As their slogan says, The TGA is ‘So Flicking Fun’! Whether you’re a golf fan or not, we’re sure you’re going to love to play it.

The TGA is for ages 8 to adult, can play 1-8 players and has a game time of 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the number of holes you decide to play. For more information or to pre-order visit www.TableGolfAssociation.com
